Led by staff and students in the English, Archaeology, and Military History departments, Bishop Grosseteste University celebrates the 10th anniversary of Being Human, the Festival of the Humanities, with an exciting programme of activities open to the public, including creative and video game workshops, film screenings, and an interactive reading group, from Saturday 9th to Saturday 16th November.

The theme this year is Landmarks, and we are rethinking Lincolnshire Landmarks through the suggestive research of engaging staff and students how are interested in the connection between creative writing, arts, gaming, and reading with health and wellbeing. Being Human is the UK's national festival of the humanities and aims to open up and highlight the importance of humanities research. It showcases how humanities inspire and enrich our everyday lives, help us to understand ourselves, our relationships with others, and the challenges we face in a changing world. We have received one of the 32 funding grants that, through a competitive application process, Being Human has awarded to researchers at universities across the UK. This enables us to run free public engagement activities for the Festival in Lincoln.

We have planned a week of activities for the communities/public that explore Lincolnshire landmarks in connection to wellbeing, historical heritage and the creative power of reading and writing. Our programme starts and ends with Twinning Landmarks, two-day creative workshops for Ukrainian refugees that invite them to explore Ukrainian and Lincolnshire landmarks, informed by research looking at links between wellbeing and engagement with heritage. The creations produced by the participants will form part of a future publication that celebrates landmarks in Ukraine and Lincolnshire. Running alongside this workshop, there are several other activities, including film screenings, a video game workshop, and an interactive reading group.

All of the events are free.

Below you find a list of the event which includes their individual booking links. You can also find them on Being Human 2024 national programme at Being Human Festival
