Why do I need to register with the police?

If you are required to register with the police, it will be stated on your entry visa vignette, your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) or Home Office letter approving your application for leave. Not all students will have this requirement.

The police force will issue you with a Police Registration Certificate (PRC) which is a document that proves you have complied with the requirement of your visa. The PRC is an important document, and you must keep it safe.

How to register

When registering for the first time, there are three stages to the process:

  1. Starting the registration online: students will need to complete some basic details online via Lincolnshire Police’s website: Lincolnshire Police foreign national police registrations. You will be asked for personal details, contact details, family member details, passport details, visa details and study details.
  2. After completing the online process, students will be invited to make an appointment to visit Lincoln Police Station.
  3. Attend Lincoln Police Station in-person to complete your registration. You will need to bring with you your passport, some cash for payment of your PRC (currently between £30-£40), your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) letter, proof of your Lincoln address (e.g. your BGU accommodation letter/tenancy agreement) and proof of your requirement to register with the police (e.g. your visa/visa letter).
