Seven Theology students and two members of staff have just returned from the university’s latest visit to India, which included a trip to The United Theological College in Bangalore.
Highlights included a visit to a ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness) temple, an artefacts market, and Mehndi painting - the art of drawing intricate patterns on the skin (usually hands and arms) using henna.
There was an amazing variety of exciting foods to try, including delicious breads and curries. Mark Plater, BGU Senior Lecturer in Theology was definitely enjoying the Indian cuisine.
Architecture fans were not disappointed as the trip took the group to various temples, sanctuaries, waterfalls, palaces, and churches. Definitely a change of scenery to the Medieval and Roman surroundings of Lincoln.
There were even a few animal friends made along the way, including an eager young calf and a dog who came to say hello!
Over the few days there was time to create artwork and reflect. The group attended a session hosted by one of Mark's associates who has known him for over twenty years. Just one of the many unforgettable encounters they had.
The group had an incredible time and contributed a few final thoughts on their return:
We went to India as a disparate collection of individuals from different year groups and courses, but we came back as a family! That for me made the trip worthwhile, regardless of all the other new encounters and experiences made by us in engaging with such a different culture. Heather Cliffe, Admissions Officer.
