In a generous start to the new year, local construction company Shadow CSM have donated a variety of essential appliances to support our students.

The impact of the cost of living crisis continues to impact us all. From energy bills to food costs, watching what we spend remains important, especially for students.

Although we have a variety of support available for our students, in a world of rising expenses, donations from our local community make a tangible difference.

After reaching out directly to our Student Engagement Team, Shadow CSM donated a variety of essential kitchen appliances including microwaves, toasters and kettles for use at the BG Students’ Union (BGSU).

Connor Short, Contention, Quality and Student Engagement Officer at BGU, comments on the difference that donations like this can make: “Many students cannot afford the upfront cost of these appliances when moving into accommodation.

“By having access to these appliances, students will have the opportunity to better allocate their reduced finances towards their experience and development at university.

“This feeds directly into our social purpose of student engagement, ensuring that students have what they need, when they need it, so they can focus on what really matters; their health, education and development.”

The donated appliances are available for use by all students in the BGSU common room – alongside other free to use resources already available in our community larder.

The Hub and BGSU are working in collaboration to continually improve the cost-of-living position for our students. For further student support information and cost of living advice, please click here.
