Bishop Grosseteste Student Union's (BGSU) Men’s Rugby Team began their 2019/20 playing and fundraising seasons with a charity match against Gainsborough RFC.

Although the match didn’t go their way, with Gainsborough running out winners on the day, the team were still able to raise over £150 for their chosen charity of the year - Papyrus. Papyrus is the national charity dedicated to the prevention of young suicide and BGSU Men’s Rugby will be running fundraising activities throughout the year in support of them.

Following the match Owen Clarkson, President of BGSU Mens Rugby, praised the effort of his squad and discussed why they had chosen to support Papyrus:

"The game saw a well drilled Gainsborough side compete with our young but promising BG team. The boys gave there all and the only way is up for this group of lads."

"The charity PAPYRUS was chosen due to how personal their cause is to a lot of our members, and we believe us spreading their name out by fundraising on the behalf can only lead to more assistance with young people and their mental health”

You can find more information on the fundraising plans of all our societies and how you can get involved with them on the BGSU website. Looking to start your journey at BGU? Find out more on our apply page or by joining us on one of our Open Days.
