Dr Lyndsay Muir and Dr Helen Bushell-Thornally, Senior Lecturers in Secondary education at BGU, recently attended the book launch of ‘The Guide to LGBTQ+ Research’; a publication in which they both contributed chapters.

Described as an essential resource for those embarking on master’s or doctoral level study, the guide offers support to anyone undertaking research with LGBTQ+ participants.

The guide was edited by Dr Adam Brett and Professor Catherine Lee, with chapters provided by a total of 37 contributors.

Lyndsay's chapter can be found in the first section on Getting Started, entitled ‘Prospecting for gold: Finding your guide’.

This is followed by a chapter provided by Helen, in the section on Ethical Research with the LGBTQ+ Community, entitled 'Navigating the Ethics Application Process'.

The book launch event took place in early February – also known widely as LGBT History Month and was attended by book editor Professor Catherine Lee; a visiting professor in Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) at BGU.

During the event, Catherine introduced Lyndsay as one of the book’s contributors and read out an extract from her chapter.

In response to questions from attendees, Lyndsay highlighted the importance of attending events like this and making use of the new guide in order to 'prospect for gold': "You need to seek out the people and place that will understand you, your research interests and support you through!”

Helen added: "Making use of a guide like this would be so helpful for anyone considering research in this field and trying to work out how to navigate this territory of research.”

Both Lyndsay and Helen continue to be committed to LGBT+ research, particularly in the field of education.
