The sustainable mugs are made from recycled rice husks, making them entirely biodegradable, and are designed to replace the single-use cardboard cups currently in use across campus.
John Hodson, Operations Manager at BG Lincoln Ltd., is leading the sustainable mug initiative and discussed his excitement at seeing such a high level of enthusiasm for it from across the University:
“This whole project came about following our work with BGSU to remove plastic straws from the business last year and is a great step forward as we look to continue to reduce our environmental impact.
“Working in partnership with BGSU and CELT we would like to say thank you to all the students and staff who have shown their support – we have been blown away by the positive response.”
The mugs come in a variety of colours and you can purchase yours in the Refectory or Curiositea today. By getting involved you’ll not only be helping to save the planet, at a cost of £2.25 including a free hot drink, you’ll also be getting a bargain.
