British Science Week (BSW) takes place from Friday 7th March to Sunday 16th March: A ten-day celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths.
In the weeks before BSW, our full time one year PGCE Secondary Science students attended an interactive demonstration in our Newton Lab.
From screaming jelly babies to methane bubbles, our trainees had the opportunity to watch demonstrations and then carry the experiments out themselves!
This session provided the ideal opportunity to practice these specialised demonstrations – promoting confidence in being able to carry these out in their own classrooms to engage and motivate the next generation of scientists.
Nicola Shaw, Senior Lecturer in PGCE Secondary at BGU, said: “I am delighted that our trainee science teachers enjoyed this session.
“I was pleased to be part of so many discussions about how our trainees intend to provide engaging and stimulating learning environments not only during British Science Week but throughout their careers.”
British Science Week is enjoyed by many secondary schools to highlight the significance of science in all our lives.
Alice, PGCE Secondary Science student, said: “Today’s session enabled me to see different experiments and practicing them helped to improve my confidence for future teaching practice!”
"British Science Week is an important opportunity to engage people in science and see how exciting it can be. At the school I work with on my placement, I am planning to suggest launching a Science Club if they don’t have one already.”
There is excellent teaching and super support from our mentors. We genuinely have the best team at BGU!
