Students from across the teaching programmes at Bishop Grosseteste University (BGU) met with around 50 exhibitors, including schools, multi-academy trusts, local authorities and recruitment agencies.

The event is designed to introduce the trainees to a variety of organisations which are recruiting teachers this year, as students begin to plan their first teaching posts following their graduation in July.

In addition to the networking areas of the event trainees were also able to attend lectures by the two main teaching Unions. Barry Hancock of the the National Association of Schoolmaster's Union of Women Teachers (NASUWT) gave a talk on ‘Your First Teaching Post’ while Nick Raine from the National Education Union (NEU) introduced students to Teachers’ Pay and Conditions.

Organised by the BG Futures’ Careers, Employability and Enterprise Team, and now a regular part of the University’s calendar, the fair was well received by both exhibitors and students alike.

For PGCE student Rebecca Mitchell attending the event proved to be both an informative and practical experience:

“The talks from union representatives were informative and helpful A great networking opportunity - a very well planned and well executed day - many thanks to BG Futures for putting it on”

While exhibitor Mitch Gallacher, from the Diocese of London, added:

“Many thanks to all for a very well organised event yesterday - hope to see you next year”

Event organiser Andy Wright commented:

“BGU is delighted to be working in partnership with those who employ teachers throughout the UK and beyond.

“It is fantastic that so many students and organisations attended and contributed to this stimulating and supportive event”
