EDI (Equality, Diversity and Inclusion) Week at BGU took place from Monday 10th to Friday 14th February; purposed to be a collaborative effort to support trainee teachers’ professional commitment to equality in education.
The week provided an opportunity to enhance their knowledge, understand diversity, and recognise inclusive teaching practices.
The start of the week was a special highlight which saw a day full of inspiring talks from Associate Professor Sheine Peart, Dr. Kayden Schumacher, Manjinder Jagdev, Sam McDonald, Mae Sleeman and more.
Students were then given the opportunity to break into subject groups, to refine their EDI plans and proformas for the week.
Lyndsay Muir, PGCE Secondary Lecturer at BGU, said: “I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved in our recent EDI Week on campus.
“The week itself offers teachers, including our students and those delivering sessions throughout the week, some time and resources to explore important aspects of equality, diversity and inclusion.
“We had inspirational guest speakers on the Monday and some brilliant presentations and professional dialogue to finish the week!”
EDI Week was made possible by some of our dedicated BGU colleagues:
Visiting Professor Catherine Lee
Dr Sheine Peart
Dr Clare Lawrence
Dr Helen Bushell-Thornalley
