On the evening of Thursday 27th March, over 60 people participated in a Ramadan Iftar on campus in the Eliot Room.
Jointly organised by BGU, the Dialogue Society and the Centre for Reconciliation (TCfR), the evening included food, games, entertainment and speeches from various Lincolnshire dignitaries. The main preparations for the event were carried out by the Leicester branch of the Dialogue Society.
An Iftar marks the end of fasting for Muslims during the Islamic lunar month of Ramadan: For 30 days Muslims fast between sunrise and sunset, meaning that they only eat and drink very early in the morning and then again in the evening after sunset.
Attendees included representatives from a variety of faiths and communities including local Jewish, Christian and Muslim centres, along with various other organisations and several Lincoln Mayors, past and present.
Some BGU colleagues and students joined us, with some our students even winning awards in the competitions!
Mark Plater, Senior Lecturer in Theology at BGU, said: “The Ramadan Dinner was a wonderful opportunity for colleagues, students, and members of our community to come together for an evening of celebration.
“In line with our university’s social purpose, occasions like these create positive change in our communities and beyond.
“On behalf of everyone involved at BGU we would like to say a huge thank you to all attendees and our organisation partners.”
