Students across campus came together at our Student’s Union (BGSU) to have their say in the National Student Survey (NSS) and the BGU Student Satisfaction Survey (BGUSSS).

BGU’s Survey Week ran from Monday 27th January to Friday 31st January. As part of the event, students were invited to BGSU every day from 12 pm – 2:30 pm.

Here, they were greeted by colleagues from The Hub and Student Ambassadors who were happy to provide instructions on how to complete each of the surveys.

Following this, students could enjoy free nachos, a cuddle with some furry friends from Guide Dogs UK and a £5 voucher for use at The Refectory or Curiositea – alongside the chance to win a £50 One4all voucher and £150 contribution towards graduation costs.

Stephanie Terry, Centre Coordinator at The Hub said: “It was wonderful to see such a high number of enthusiastic students join us at the Students’ Union throughout Survey Week.

“If you were away from campus or couldn’t join us for Survey Week – you still have time to complete the BGUSSS and the NSS!”

The BGUSSS is our annual internal survey run in conjunction with the Students’ Union. It asks students to rate their satisfaction with all aspects of life at BGU and is open to all students.

Elisabeth Harrison, 3rd Year Archaeology and History student, attended Survey Week and was randomly selected as a winner of one the £50 gifts cards. She said: “I took the BGUSSS because I believe it is extremely important to get my opinion across.

“The surveys are a great chance for students to voice their opinion in a way where they will be heard and are a great way to improve the university and get true opinions from all the students.”

The NSS is an annual survey that focusses mainly on students’ satisfaction with their course. It is completed only by final year undergraduates, at universities and colleges all over the country. The NSS is conducted independently by Ipsos on behalf of the UK’s higher education funding bodies.

Claire Thomson, Executive Dean for Teaching, Learning and Student Success, shares more about the importance of these surveys: “Student satisfaction surveys are a crucial way in which universities listen to their students.

“It enables us to listen to the student voice and to evaluate the student experience, and, crucially, to make enhancements to importance the experience of our students.”

The NSS and BGSSS are open until Wednesday 30th April 2025. Visit our Your Voice Heard page for further information on both surveys and how to complete!
