At BGU, you’ll be part of a community that is committed to helping our students realise their potential so they can go out into the world and change people’s lives for the better.
We’re based on a single-site campus that reflects our heritage and visions for the future, with historical buildings and modern facilities, and it is perfect for supporting the close-knit and supportive culture we’ve spent our lifetime nurturing.
Our History
We were founded in 1862 as a teacher training college for women, and lots has changed for us since then, but our commitment to providing a first-class education and turning out high quality graduates remains.
In 2012 we were awarded full university status, supporting our bold ambitions as a modern university with an exciting, prosperous and sustainable future.
Our impact
There are currently around 2000 students enrolled at BG across an ever-expanding undergraduate portfolio, traditional PGCE teacher training routes, work-based foundation degrees and degree apprenticeships, master's courses and doctoral study.
We have consistently high student satisfaction and employability rates, with staff across all departments from student advice to catering providing a vital service in helping our students and other staff get the most from their time at BGU.
Research is another important focus for us at BGU. Our Research and Knowledge Exchange areas to stimulate innovation and teaching, inform our practices, develop external and community engagement and most importantly, change lives. Our recent Research Excellence Framework results included outputs of world-leading quality and acknowledged fields of internationally excellent public impact.
We’re committed to not just supporting our staff and students, but also our wider community through our collaborations with partners, business support and community services, allowing our resources and expertise to reach even more people.
